We had an early start to get the sheep loaded and all the kit we thought we’d need for show day. When we arrived it seemed that the other members had the same idea and we spent quite a long time scratching our heads trying to get too much stuff into too small a space.
Helped by bacon butties, the stall was soon set up, the raised bed built (thanks to the stall next door for winding Chris up) and the sheep and chickens in their new homes.
It wasn’t long before the first visitors arrived, and that set the pace for the day – a steady stream of people with varied questions about smallholding, and interest in joining. Fortified only by sausage buns and Steve and Julie’s wine we battle on through the afternoon. Telephone numbers were taken for chickens and arks , membership forms completed on the spot. Members popped in to chew the cud and bales were used for our aching bones. Soon it was time to pack up. We’ve had ideas for the stall next year (bigger yet!) and will see the Wragby show in 2010.
